To gauge an understanding of how boundaries are perceived in Ireland by landowners - FIG 2011

Anecdotal evidence from property professionals indicated that there was a significant increase in boundary disputes in Ireland since the phased publication of the Land Registry digital maps in 2005. There was a need to investigate this development in order to confirm or refute this trend and attempt to identify the issues causing these disputes. There was an absence of detailed information on the causes and types of boundary disputes within the Irish Legal system. This paper aimed to address this lack of information by collecting comprehensive information on a range of case studies over the past 5 years and determine the incidence of these types of disputes.

Why are Property Boundary Disputes increasing in Ireland? - IPGRC 2013

Property boundary disputes have been on the increase over the past number of years. This paper highlighted results from a questionnaire to Irish property professionals to understand the increase in disputes over the past number of years, including the impact of the PRAi Digital Mapping Project on their work, the most common type of dispute, the length of time devoted to property boundary disputes in the past 10 years and the number of Boundary Surveys conducted between 2007 – 2011.

Proposed Guidebook on established Case Law for Land Surveyors on Property Boundaries - Survey Review 2013

This paper outlined a proposal to be considered in the form of a ‘Guidebook’ for surveyors to follow when involved in a property boundary dispute. This paper presented results documenting how case law can be seen to be of fundamental importance for surveyors when involved in property boundary disputes. Documented in the form of a ‘Guidebook’, this information would be of benefit for surveyors and property professionals in understanding the principles applied to previous cases and thus the principles to be applied in future cases to resolve boundary dispute incidences (before litigation). The rulings made in court can be employed as set principles for surveyors to follow when carrying out property boundary rectification and resolving property boundary disputes in the future.
